La Coop fédérée helps develop women's leadership

La Coop fédérée would like to take this opportunity of International Women’s Day to pay tribute to the women leaders in our network and raise awareness amongst employees regarding the importance of gender equality in our organization.

Firstly, La Coop fédérée is pleased to highlight, given the importance of this March 8th date, the recent nomination of Muriel Dubois as the first woman vice-president on its board of directors. Ms. Dubois was named to this position during La Coop fédérée’s last annual meeting. She has been a member of La Coop fédérée’s board of directors since 2012 and is a dairy producer in Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults. She has also been a member of the board of directors of La Coop Covilac since 1998. In addition to these commitments in La Coop network, Ms. Dubois was a director for the Société d'agriculture du Lac Saint-Pierre, was a founding director of L'école Carrousel and a town councillor for the municipality of Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults.

In addition to Ms. Dubois, Cathy Fraser has held a seat on the board for the last three years for Territory #8, which is reserved for a woman representative. As part of her responsibilities, she has overseen the implementation of an action plan for better representation of women on the boards of directors of cooperatives within the network. This action plan, renewed every three years, is aiming to reach a level of 20% women representatives on the boards of directors of cooperatives in the network by the end of 2018. La Coop fédérée is already heading in the right direction because the level of women's representatives on the boards of directors of cooperatives in the network reached 19.6% in 2017. According to the rankings by the Financial Post 500 and the Conference Board of Canada, this level is higher than the average for the largest companies in Canada, which is 14.5%.

La Coop fédérée is also proud to have received the Pioneer Enterprise certificate from the Parité de La Gouvernance au Féminin program in 2017 for having implemented practices and continually looking for ways to encourage women in value-added positions. This year, La Coop fédérée also participated in l’Éffet A, a professional development program for women aimed at developing self-confidence, the capacity to take strategic risks and the skill to exert influence.

La Coop fédérée is proud to celebrate the International Women’s Day and will continue in 2018 to support the development of women's leadership.
