Jean-Philippe Côté
Jean-Philippe Côté represents the third generation of agricultural producers on the farm, which he has run with his wife, Julie Richer, since 2008. They produce mainly milk with a herd of 250 heads. They have a quota of 170 kilos and they cultivate 330 hectares. Surplus crops are sold as grain and commercial hay. They also market maple syrup from their 4,500 taps.
With 20 years’ involvement in his cooperative, he has been able, over the years, to contribute to the discussions of the various councils in which he has participated, in order to maintain the relevance and durability of the cooperative model. In his view, this model contributes to developing efficient, profitable businesses that are able to evolve in today’s society, while giving value to their users.
In addition to his involvement with Vivaco Groupe Coopératif, Mr. Côté sits on the Board of Directors of his local CUMA as Vice-Chairman. He is involved in various UPA boards, including that of the Memphrémagog sector and that of the Producteurs de lait de l’Estrie. He also sits on his municipality’s environmental advisory committee. Through his involvement, he seeks to find common ground, develop a positive image of agriculture and move forward together to solidify agriculture and ultimately strengthen farmers in our regions.
