Celebration of the International Day of Cooperatives

Today, July 7, cooperatives from around the world are celebrating the International Day of Cooperatives, whose theme this year is “Cooperate for a Sustainable Society.”

With their values, principles, and governing structures, cooperative business models have proven to be extremely resilient. Several studies have shown that cooperatives, both within Quebec and abroad, last at least twice as long as businesses of other types.

With their 1.2 billion members, cooperatives make up 10% of the world’s jobs. According to Ariel Guarco, President of the International Cooperative Alliance, no other economic, social, or political movement has, within a timespan of 200 years, had such global success.

As employees and members of La Coop fédérée, we should be proud to be associated with a group of businesses that provides a framework for communities all around the world.

Happy 2018 International Day of Cooperatives!
